[Class 146 (ii)] In a machine for securing bale - ties without the use of a seal, the overlap of the tie is positioned between levers f. Pressure on an operating handle lowers a cam member d to operate the levers f to lift the strap to a recess in a fixed die h. The member d then operates levers g to cut and bend the edges s<1> of the strap as shown in Fig. 4. In a modification, additional levers may be fitted for flattening the joint. The levers f may raise and cut the edges of the tie and the levers g may effect bending. In a further modification, the cuts are made in the form of dovetails.
