Abstract

916,041. Seals &c. VEBEENIGDE METAALVERPAKKING MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Oct. 25, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959], No. 36649/60. Class 146 (2). The overlapping ends of a metal strap tied around a container 1 are joined by making incisions a and bending down the tongues formed on to the face of the strap by means of dogs 8 of jaws 7 of a connecting mechanism. An additional dog 9 having only a single cutting edge makes an incision b near where the end lip of the strap is formed as a knife 10 severs the straps. When the knife 10 rises it co-operates with an intermediate knife 12 and a counter plate 13 not only to sever the band to form the lip but to. force its sides c adjacent the incision b down against the lip to hold it against the remaining strap.
