[Class 122 (iii)] A packing for containers subject to high pressure comprises a plastic, saddle-shaped ring 5 housed in a groove 2. The ring has oblique surfaces 5b on both sides which are engaged by a wedge-shape metal ring 1 acted upon by a closed resilient ring or a corrugated metal band 4 which is initially stressed. Fluid pressure from the container may also have access to the back of the packing. Specification 338,702, [Class 122 (iii)], is referred to.
