Abstract

442,532. Fuel injectors. AMERY, G., 3, Greville Road, Kilburn, London. Aug. 8, 1934, Nos. 22987/34, 31700 /34, and 2967 /35. [Class 7 (iii)] A fuel-injection valve for internal-combustion prime movers, opened by the action of the fuel pressure on a piston connected to the valve, is provided with a stop limiting the opening of the valve and so set as to ensure the valve contacting with it under the injection pressure, a relief valve being provided to open at normal maximum injection pressure. Fuel supplied by a pump 12, Fig. 1, through a passage 19 acts on a shoulder 25 on the injection valve 23 so as to open this a small amount limited by an adjustable stop 31. Atomization then takes place at the valve seating 24, the fuel passing through a passage 33 and being further atomized at the nozzle orifice 21. If the fuel pressure becomes excessive, it escapes past the relief valve 35. The valve is closed when fuel pressure is admitted past a cam-actuated valve 40 to a piston 26 on the injection valve. Fig. 2 shows another form of injection valve 76, in which a cylindrical extension 79 is provided from the valve seat 77 and operates in a passage 81 which tapers down to the orifice 89. The valve has a head 90 which comes against a stop 91, and this comes against a further stop 94. The relief valve is formed as a sleeve 82 around the injection valve.
