Abstract
442,274. Seats combined with shelves. SEARLE & SON, Ltd., H. J., and RICE, S. F., 70, Old Kent Road, London. Sept. 17, 1935, No. 25809. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (iii)] An arm-chair or settee is provided with a roll shelf in one or both arms the shelf being collapsable into the arm on the principle of a roll top desk or of a roller blind. The shelf is comprised of wooden or metal slats 4 secured to canvas, rubber or leather bands and runs in guides 1, 2, disposed in the chair or settee arm. The shelf is supported in extended position by arms 5 pivoted at the inside faces of the ends 3 of the chair arm. The arms 5 extend through a slot 9 in the side of the chair arm and are articulated to the front edge of the shelf by means of a pin 7 which is pivotally attached to the ends of the arms and slides in slot 8 in the front edge of the shelf. When the shelf is collapsed into the chair arm the slot 9 is covered by a member 10 which is attached to the front edge of the shelf and may be upholstered or may be of polished metal.
