442,268. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Lawson, R. H. ; 55, Cooke Street, and Smith, W. L. ; 51, Roberts Street, both in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Aug. 10, 1935, No. 22618. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1934. [Class 74 (ii)] Backing strips 8 kinked or corrugated so that they may be held in place by friction are removably clamped between strips which are inserted in the spaced slots 9 ... 11 of a builtup knitting-machine needle bed (generally a cylinder 1 of large diameter) to form removable trick walls. The strips 7 and/or 8 are recessed at 20 to engage a circumferential sectioned clamping rib, while the upper ends of the strips 7 engage, at 17, an undercut portion 13 of the cylinder. The strips 8 provide the bases of the tricks on which the needles and/or jacks slide. The undersides are recessed to fit over projections where the slots 9 ... 11 are formed. The stitch ring 3 is formed with a circumferential projection 14, slotted to receive the strips 8, while a recess 15 engages the upper ends 25. The kinks &c. may be put in the strips 8 as they are being assembled. The fabric supporting ring 5 has apertures 6 at intervals to receive lint. The parts 22 of the strips 7 provide a mounting for the sinker supporting bracket.
