Abstract

Paraffinous raffinates of high viscosity index are obtained by mixing mineral oils intimately with a solvent of the non-paraffin ingredients, the solvent being liquid at atmospheric or slightly raised temperature, and centrifuging. The process may be continuous or by batches, and may be repeated. For example, mineral oil is mixed with phenol, nitrobenzene, benzene, or dichlorethyl ether by centrifugal pumps or turbo-mixers, passed into piping or a vessel for a time sufficient to allow the desired degree of extraction, and is then centrifuged.
