Abstract

Hydrocarbon oils are refined and freed from non-paraffinic constituents by extraction with a mixture of furfural and naphthalene. Lubricating oil distillate is extracted with four quantities of the solvent mixture containing 70 per cent of furfural at 25, 35, 55 and 65 DEG C. respectively. The final raffinate is of high viscosity index and free from dark-coloured constituents.
