[Class 28 (i)] A cooking-device with two electrically-heated plates 10, 11, has the plates connected by hinge means so that they can be supported in substantially parallel relation at various distances apart and so that the upper plate may be moved to a vertical open position with respect to the lower plate and also to a second open position in which it is supported in substantially the same plane as the lower plate. The plates 10, 11 are detachably secured in the casings of the device by spaced lugs 15 on the plates entering apertures in the rear wall, the front end of each plate being locked by a spring-pressed pin actuated by a handle 24 secured to the frame engaging in a recess in the plate. The plates are heated by elements 25, 26 preferably of the type described in Specification 144,767, [Class 37], arranged as shown in Fig. 2, the terminals of these elements being connected to terminal pins 30. The leads 32 for the upper element pass out through the rear of the upper .casing 12 and thence downwardly into the lower casing 13, the exposed portion of the leads being preferably covered by a flexible conduit 33 that can slide inwardly into the upper casing. The hinge means comprises a pair of rigid L-shaped lugs 38, with the long legs of the L secured to the inner side walls of the upper casing 12, pivotally secured to L-shaped links 41 pivotally mounted within the lower casing 13 adjacent its front wall. The bottom and the side wall of the casing 13 are slotted to receive the links 41 and to provide for limited vertical movement thereof. The lugs 38 are extended to form abutments 47 to engage the rear wall of the legs 14 attached to the casing 13 when it is desired to use the device with the upper plate approximately vertical. A handle 48 is secured by a pivot 51 to a bracket 49 at the front of the casing 12 ; a spring arranged in the handle permits it to be locked in a recess 59 to maintain it in a position at 180‹ from its normal pendant position, the handle when locked in this recess serving as a leg to support the upper plate after that plate has been swung to an open horizontal position. The lower plate 11 is provided with a sump 60 fitted with a draining pipe 61.
