This invention relatesto a combined enlarging, reducing, copying and printing machine of the electrical photographic type, and
has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine of small compass including electrical light sources so arranged whereby an operator can photographically enlarge, reduce, copy and print when desired expeditiously in a thoroughly satise factory manner.
Further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine of the class referred to, which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eflicient in its use, conveniently operated, readily assembled, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. V
lVith the foregoing and other objects in 20, view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arran ement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 7 1s a section on line 7 -7, Figure 6. Figure 8 is a section on line 8-8, Figure 7. Referring to the drawings in detail the machine includes what may be termed a rectangular cabinet or a compartment receptacle,
hereinafter termed a cabinet which comprises a body portion carried by two pair of end supporting legs and each of said legs is formed from a vertically disposed an le bar of appropriate length. The front and rear legs of one pair are indicated at 1, 2 respectively and of the other pair at 3, 4 respectively. The body portion of the cabinet is suspended a substantial distance above the lower ends of the is s and comprises a pair of end walls 5, 6, a bac wall 7 a top including a hinge and a stationary section 8, 9, respectively, which projects forwardly with respect to a front formed of a hinge section and a stationary frame 10, 11 respectively, a vertically disposed intermediate partition 12 and a series of spaced partitions 13, 14 and 15. The foregoing elements of the body portion are secured together and braced in any suitable manner.
The partition 12 in connection with the end wall 5, a portion of the back wall 7 and the hin e sections 8 and 10 form an open bottom compartment 16 having a hinged front and top, so that when occasion requires the front and top of said compartment can be swung to open position.
The partition 12, in connection with the end wall 6, a portion of the back wall 7 the stationary section 9, partitions 13, 14 and 15 and a bottom plate 17 provides a chamber divided into a series of small compart- 'ments 18.
The hinged section 8 of thetop is of less width, but of greater length than the stationary section 9. The sections of the top are flush at the front of the body portion. The
hinged section 8 projects from the end wall 5 and also rearwardly with respect to the back wall 7. The top further includes a stationary strip 19 which is flush throughout with the stationary section 9 and the end wall 6. The stationary section 9, as well as the strip 19 is flush with the back wall 7.

The frame 11 is formed from a vertically disposed bar 23, a pair of longitudinally extending bars 24, and a right angularly extension 26 formed at the front of the end wall 6.. The strip 19 is seated on the extension 26.
The hinged section 8, of the top, which forms the top of the compartment 16, is formed with a rectangular opening 27 in which is arranged a plate glass 28. The plate 28 is disposed centrally with respect to the top of the compartment 16. Arranged within the compartment 16, at the upper portion 0 thereof and spaced from the hinged section 8, is a holder 29, in which is secured a ground glass 30. The ground glass 30 is used to soften and defuse the light during the printing operation. The compartment 16 is employed for the reception of an adjustable reflector and an adjustable light source. The reflector is indicated at 81, is vertically disposed and of parabola contour. The reflector 31 at its bottom is formed with an axial opening 32 and an enlargement 33 at one side of the opening 32. The light source is in the form of an electric lamp 34 which extends through the opening 32. The socket for the lamp 34 is indicated at 35 and is carried by a vertically disposed sleeve 36 arranged below the bottom of the reflector 31. The lower end of the sleeve 36 is connected to the upper end of a tubular member 37 which extendsthrough a collar 38 formed at one end of an arm 39. The tubular member 37 is vertically adjustable in the collar 38 for the purpose of elevating and lowering the lamp 34 relative to the reflector 31 and said member 37 is maintained in its adjusted position by a set screw 40 carried by the collar 38. The other end of the arm 39 is provided with a collar 41, through which extends a bar 42, having its upper end, as at 43', fixedly secured to the enlargement The bar 42 is vertically adjustable to permit of elevating and lowering the reflector 31 relative to the lamp 34 and a set screw 43 is provided and which is carried by the collar 41 for the purpose of maintaining the bar 42 in its adjusted position. The bar 42 also provides means for suspending the arm 39. A carrier is provided for the bar 42, and which is in the form of abracket provided with a loop portion 44 through which extends the bar 42 and the latter is detachably secured to the loop portion 44 by a set screw 45. The bracket further includes a pair of oppositely extending inclined arms 46, 47, which are adjustably secured by the hold-fast devices 48 to the legs 1 and 2. Openings 49 are provided in the legs 1, 2 for the purpose of selectively positioning the supporting bracket for the bar 42 and said bracket further provides means for adjusting the reflector 31 and lamp 34 in unison. The bar 42 also provides means for adjusting the reflector 31 and lamp 34 in union, as when the set screw is released and the set screw 43 inbindi-n-g engagement with the bar 42 the latter in connection with.

Secured to the section 8 at the rear thereof is a plate 53, provided with a pair of upstanding apertured ears 54. Mounted in the cars 54, as Well as being con nected thereto, is a spring controlled pivot bolt 55, which carries a forwardly projecting U-shaped member 56 which is secured. as at 57 to the plate 51. The member 56 is pivoted on the bolt 55. The controlling spring for the bolt is indicated at 58 and has one end anchored. to the U-shaped member 56 and its other end anchored to the plate Projecting forwardly from the bolt 55 and onto the outer face of the plate 51 is a pair of links 59 which have their forward end anchored in pairs of short plates 60,61. The plates 61, are secured, as at 63 to the plate 51. Mounted between the plates 60, 61 and projecting across the plate 52, as well as being secured to the latter is a pair of arms 64 which at their rear ends are pivotally connected to the plates 60, 61, as at 65. The means for securing the arms 64 to the plate 52 is indicated at 66. The arms 64 project a substantial distance forwardly with respect to the plate 52. Secured to the front end of the arm 64 is an upset handle member 66 and further arranged between the front ends of the arm 64, as well as being pivotally con nected therewith is a latch member 67 therefore in the form of a bell crank andv which also acts as a means, when the printing head is in operative position, to actuate a switch 68 for closing the light circuit for the lamp 34. The circuit connections are indicated at 69. The latch member co-acts with the front edge 70 of the hinged section 8 of the top for the purpose of securing the printing head in active position to maintain the sensitized surface in position over the plate glass 27 so that when the light source is illuminated the printing operation will be carried out.
The latch member 67 is positionel directly beprinted upon in position with respect to the plate glass 28. After the plates 51 and 52 have been shifted to hold the sensitized surface or paper in position, the latching member 67 is then shifted to securely hold the plate 51 and 52, in the position as shown in Figure 6, and when so shifted will actuate the switch 68, thereby closing the lighting circuit providing for the printing operation.
The reflector and its connections, the lamp and its connections, ground glass, plates or plate glass, hinged section 8, compartment 16 and the printing head and its connections provide a photographically printing mecha nism.
Supported by the cabinet and extending upwardly therefrom, as well as arranged to one side of the printing head, is a combined enlarging, reducing and copying mechanism, and which includes a standard 71 having its lower portion secured by hold-fast devices 72 to the back wall 7 of the body portion of the cabinet. The standard 71 extends a substantial distance above the stationary section 9 of the top of the cabinet and furthermore said standard 71 is centrally disposed with respect to said stationary section 9. That portion of the standard 71, above the section 9 of the top of the cabinet is bifurcated to provide a pair of arms 72, 73 spaced at substantial distance from each other to form a guide passage 74 for a vertically disposed guide bar 75 which projects above the upper ends of the arms 72, 73. Slidably mounted against the arms 72, 73, is a pair of plates 7 6 which are secured to the bar 75 by a bolt 7 6' which projects a substantial distance from the front plate and has connected to its projecting portion an elevating and lowering cable 77. The rear end of the bolt 7 6' carries a securing nut 78. The bolt 7 6 is formed with a pair of squared portions 79 to prevent the turning of the plates 7 6 thereon. The elevating and lowering cable or member 77 is positioned forwardly with respect to the standard 71. Secured to the upperends of the arms 72, 7 3, is a trans versely extending keeper 80 which extends entirely around said arm and between which slides the bar 75 when the latter is elevated and lowered. Projecting forwardly from one end of the keeper 80 and supported therefrom is a pulley 81 over which travels the elevating and lowering cable. The upper end of the cable 77 is provided with a hand grip 82.
Secured to the upper end of the bar 7 5 is a forwardly extending angle-shaped bracket 83, having secured to the front thereof a. lamp-house 84 and positioned therein is an electrical lamp. The socket of the lamp is indicated at 85, and extends rearwardly from j the lamp-house 84 and thecircuit connections I for the lamp are indicated at 86. Any suitable means can be employed for opening and i f closing the circuit to the lamp in the lamp house 84. Secured to the bar 5, Below and in proximity to the bracket 83 is a right angularly disposed and forwardly projecting suspension member 87, which is secured to the upper end of a carrier 88 which is in the form ,and which surrounds the lower end of the lamp-house 84 and upper end of the camera 89. The bellows of the camera 89 is indicated at- 91 and the lens carrying frame at 92, and
the latter is formed with an extension 93, provided with a set screw 94 for detac-hably securing the bellows 91' in adjusted position.
The carrier 88 includes a central bar 95 I formed with a dove-tailed groove 96 forthe reception of the set screw and the latter projects from the bar 95 and carries a securing nut 97 for clamping the set screw in position to maintain the bellows 91 adjusted. The lamp-house 84 is detachably secured to the bracket 83. When the bar 75 is moved upwardly the lamp-house 84, shield 90 or rather light retaining member 90, camera 89 and carrier 88 ar bodily shifted therewith. The stationary section 9, of the top of the housing, provides a support for the sensitized body upon which is printed photographically the enlargement or the reductionof the image or' other object.

When copying, a sensitized negative or plate is placed within the camera at the top thereof and the photograph to be copied is positioned upon the stationary section 9, and which permits of a photographic copy to be made of a photograph, by proper adjustment ofthe camera and with the required lenses at 'thelower end of the bellows.
