FHOTO-PRINTING CABINET.

This invention relates to photo printing cabinets. andaims to provide a novel form of cabinet to facilitate the making); of photographic prints from films or plates.
An important object of the invention is to providea switch mechanism controlled bv the operation of the film or plate carrier to cause the lamps in the lamp chamber to bc lighted when the til m or plate carrier is moved to a position to close the cabinet.
Anotherobject of the invention is to provide means whereby the plate or 'film holder will automatically adjust itself when a plate isr positioned thereon` Athereby compensating; for the `increased thickness of a photographic plate over a film` lVith the foregoing;` and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter' described and claimed, itbeing; understood that changes in Athe precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within .the scope of what is claimed, without departingr from the spirit of the invention.
Referring` to the drawings:
.Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention, the cover or plate holder being shown in its open position.

Figure 5 is fragmental sectional view illustrating` the connection between the film or plate holder and the cabinet body.
Figure (3 is a fragmcntal plan view illustrating the hinged connection between the lilm or plate holder and cabinet body.
Referring` to 'the drawings in detail, the body portion of the cabinet indicated generally by the reference character 5 and includes an upper lamp chamber 6, and a lower compartment 7 which is normally closed by .means of the hinged closure 8, the rear wall of the compartment 7 being` provided with openings 9 to insure ventilation within the compartment, to maintain the paper and developing materials placed therein, in proper condition.
The lining` for the lamp chamber 6 is indicated at 1.0, and is :termed preferably uit refvparent wall 12 formed Serie-.1 No. 30,816.

Disposed above the lamp chamber G and providing-'the upper wall thereof, is a transpreferably of glass, the edfres thereof being` held between the sccuring` members 13. y
Bars 1i are arranged at the upper end of the cabinet and are provided with cutout portions to accommodate the glass member 15 which has its surfaces treated to render the same opaque.
The upper portion of the cabinet embodies a frame 16 that is connected to the body of the cabinet by means of the hinge 17, and as shown, this frame is provided with a gasket 18 adapted to .tit over the edges of theglass .member 1:5 to insure a light-proof connection between the frame and glass member 15.
The upper surface of the frame 16 is formed with a cut out portion to, accommodate the glass supporting' member 19 against which the backing' member 2O engages when the backing member is moved to clamp a film or plate in position to accomplish the printing operation.
A bar 21 is positioned over the frame and engages the ,e'lass supporting` member 19 to hold it in'position at all times. Thisbar 21 also provides means for connecting' the backing member to the cabinet, and as shown, a hinge indicated at'ZQ is provided for hingedly connecting; the backing member 20 to the bar 21.
1n order that prints and films may be properly positioned, the backing' member 2O embodies hingedly connected sections, the inner surfaces thereof being supplied with a felt member 23 to insure pressure on the film or plate engaged thereby.
Spaced arms indicated at 12eiezitend from the backing member 2O and are connected by means of the rod Pivotally connected with the cabinet. at 2G, and ei'tended between the arms 24 is an arm 2T that has its forward end extended to a position beyond the forward wall of the cabinet so that the same may be readily grasped by the operator to position or remove a film.
Supported under the arm 2T is a latch member 28 that is adapted to cooperate with the keeper 29 to hold the arm 27 to its active position, when the film or plate has been positientid and the arm moved doww wardly to force the backing member into engagement with the iilm or plate.
Spring members 30 are carried by the arm 27 and are adapted to engage the sections of the backing member to exert a downward pressure thereon when the backing member has been moved to its active position. In order that the backing member together with the arm 27 will be restricted in its rearward movement, a stop 31 is provided which stop is disposed in the path ot' travel of the backing member and arm as shown by Figure 2 of the drawings.
Formed in the bar 2l are openings adapted to accommodate the bolts 32 that are secured'to the frame 1G, the lengths ot the bolts being such as to provide a space between the heads ot' the bolts and the bar 2l, which space accommodates the coiled springs 33 that exert a downward pressure on the bar Q1. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the bar 2l may move upwardly to adapt the device for use in printing by the use of photographic plates.
The lamps 1l are in circuit with a suitable source of electric energy not shown, the circuits to the lamps being controlled by the switch members 34, all of which switch members are in circuit with a master switch including contact member 35 and contact member 36 carried by the arm 27. A main switch 37 is also in circuit with the master switch and switches Sarto the end that when the switch member 37 has been moved to close the circuits between certain switch members 34, the master switch must be operated by moving the arm 27 to a position as shown by Figure t of the drawing, whereupon the lamps which have been brought into operation by the movements of the switches 34 will be lighted, to supply light sufficient to print pictures from lilms positioned on the glass supporting mem ber 19. f
In order that the frame 16 will be held against rearward movement, pivoted arms 88 have connection with the frame as shown by Figure 2. Pivotally supported exteriorly of the cabinet and arranged at opposite sidesv thereof are shelves 39 designed to support printing paper or other material employed in the printing of photographs from plates or films.
In view of the foregoing detail description, it is thought that a further detail description as to the operation of the device is unnecessary.
I claim A photographic printingcabinet including a body portion, said body portion being di fided into an upper lamp chamber `and a lower compartment, lamps in the lamp compartment, a pair of contact members eX- tending upwardly from the body portion, a master switch, wires for providing cir` cuits between the contact points, master switch and lamps, a movable frame for supporting articles to be printed, mounted at the upper portion of the body portion and having an opening through which the contact points extend, backing members adapted to engage an article supported by the trame, to engage the artic-les and hold them to the frame, a pivoted arm for en gaging the backing members to hold the backing members tightly against the frame, and a contact member carried by the arm and adapted to engage the contact points to complete circuits to the lamps.
