Abstract
441,252. Untwisting wire ropes. WEIMAR, W., 45, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring, Oberkassel, D³sseldorf, Germany. June 12, 1935, No. 16944. [Class 109] The wire rope 1 to be split up is wound on a drum 2 under tension and the strands 36 thereof are drawn off with rotation in a direction opposite to the lay of the rope and are wound separately on drums 40 ; the individual wires 11 of each strand are drawn off from the strand with rotation opposite to the lay of the strand and are wound up on separate drums 70. The core of the cable and the cores of the strands are also untwisted and wound up. The drum 2 is frictionally driven from a reversible electric motor. The drums 40, 70 are also frictionally driven and braking means are provided for regulating the winding speed. The drums 70 are of conical form and are formed of flat iron bars 81 bent to U-shape and secured by members 82 to chain wheels 83. Projecting arms 84 are provided at the small ends of the drums and are readily removable so that the wound wire can be slipped off.
