[Class 75 (ii)] A lamp shade comprises a series of translucent rods or tubes of differing lengths supported in a rigid frame only at one end and exposed at the other end whereby their varying length gives an ornamental profile to the shade. The rods or tubes may be circular, oval, square, or triangular in cross-section, they may be of the same or different diameters or other sizes, they may be' formed with bulbous portions preferably disposed out of alignment with each other when assembled in the frame, and they may be made of coloured glass which may be sand blasted or etched. Tubes may be filled with one or more coloured liquids or jellies, or some of the tubes may be left empty or filled with plain water. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, tubes 15 containing coloured jelly 22 are cemented to plugs 14 which are connected to short brass links 13 rotatably mounted on screws 16 which are carried by a metal plate 12 secured to a flanged base member 10 by means of ornamental nuts 17 which engage screw threaded hooks 18 in engagement with suspension chains 21. When all the tubes are packed in to touch each other, the screws 16 are tightened up as by means of bolts. This shade may be adapted for use in an inverted position. In the form shown in Fig. 6, tubes 62 containing coloured jelly 63 pass through a glass ring 61 and rest on a translucent partition 64 within a metal channel 60, and one or more light sources are housed in the compartment 65. In a modification, an inverted metal channel is employed with its open bottom covered by a glass annulus supported by flanged metal plates. In another, the channel is open on its inside so that light can also pass upwardly through the centre of the shade.
