Abstract
Ferrous metal articles are pickled in a bath containing a strong pickling acid such as sulphuric, hydrochloric or nitric acid, a gluconic acid preferably d-gluconic acid, and a wetting agent such as licorice, lignon, saponin or a sulphonated naphthalene derivative. The proportions of the constituents may be varied within the range strong pickling acid 0,5--25,0 parts gluconic acid 0,25--25,0 parts wetting agent 0,01--1,0 parts to 100 parts by weight of water. A preferred formula is strong pickling acid 8 parts, gluconic acid 0,8 parts, wetting agent 0,1 parts to 100 parts of water. The pickling may be accelerated by passage of an alternating current through the bath or by treatment in a strong alternating magnetic field.ALSO:Ferrous metal articles are pickled in a bath containing a strong pickling acid such as sulphuric, hydrochloric or nitric acid, and a gluconic acid preferably d - gluconic acid. Gluconic acids are formed by oxidation of the sugars dextrose, maltose, sucrose, fructose, xylose or their decomposition products. Oxidation may be effected by means of halogens or by fermentation. A wetting agent such as licorice, lignon, saponin or a sulphonated naphthalene derivative is preferably added to the pickling bath. The proportions of the constituents may be varied within the range strong pickling acid 0,5-25,0 parts, gluconic acid 0,25-25,0 parts, wetting agent 0,01-1,0 parts, to 100 parts by weight of water. A preferred formula is strong pickling acid 8 parts, gluconic acid 0,8 parts, wetting agent 0,1 parts to 100 parts of water. The pickling may be carried out in a strong alternating magnetic field.
