Abstract
438,888. Washing granular materials. WARE, S. D., 24c, Clifton Gardens, Maida Hill, London. May 17, 1934, No. 14935. [Class 82 (ii)] In jigging-machines for concentrating ores and other materials of the type in which a screen submerged in water is given a combined vertical and horizontal reciprocating movement, the screen 11 is suspended from bridges 17 by rods 19 pivotally connected to side members 12 of the screen. The screen is reciprocated vertically by cams 16 on a shaft 4, the cams contacting with the bridges 17 which are yieldingly mounted on rods 18 supported on pillars 21 carried by girders 3 mounted on V-shaped cradles 200, 200 mounted directly on the foundations of the apparatus. The horizontal movement of the screen is produced by a single cam 6 having alternate tracks 61, 62 and is mounted on the shaft 4 and actuates a roller cam-follower 7 mounted on a carrier 8 which slides on guides 9 fixed to one of the girders 3 and whose quick-return motion is produced by springs 90 interposed between stops on the guides 9 and the face of the carrier 8. A yielding stop, e.g. a rubber cushion 22 prevents injurious contact between the cam and an adjustable head 220 on the carrier 8. The forward stroke of the carrier 8 is yieldingly transmitted to the screen 11 by means of a laminated spring bar 10 connected by flexible joints to the side of the screen and engaging the forked part 80 of the carrier 8. The quick return horizontal stroke of the screen is effected by compression springs 14, the return stroke being stopped by extensible buffers 15 of rubber or by stops formed by a rubber block 304, Fig. 8, carried in a frame 305 supported by links 300, 301 tensioned by a screw adjustment 306 engaging a wedgeshaped block 307 which can be moved towards or away from the block 304 by a screw adjustment 308. The bridges 17 are fitted with a screwed portion 102, Fig. 8, in which is threaded a screwed sleeve 103 having an impact head 104 the position of which in relation to a rubber cushion 105 in the top of the pillar 21 is adjusted by and locked in position by a nut 108. The rising stroke of the bridge 17 compresses springs 107 interposed between the nut 108 and locking nuts 109. A plurality of screens may be provided in each tank, each screen having separate mechanism, as described above, for actuating it. U.S.A. Specification 1,160,502 and British Specifications 166,490 and 253,139, [both in Class 82 (ii)], are referred to.
