Abstract

Soaps which are readily soluble in cold water and do not become rancid although prepared from fatty oils having an iodine number of at least 70, are obtained by limiting the content of such fatty oils to 25--55 per cent of the fatty constituent, and adding di- and/or tri-valent alcohols and water-soluble phosphates. Oils specified are earth nut, sunflower, soya bean, sesame, and olive oils. Glycerine and glycol are suitable alcohols. For example, 50 lb. of bleached ground-nut oil, 48 lb. of bleached coconut oil, and 2 lb. of resin is saponified, and the soap washed and bleached. 3 Per cent of glycerine and 0,4 per cent. of trisodium phosphate relative to the fat content is mixed in and the soap cooled, chipped, dried, and flaked.
