Abstract

437,812. Hydraulic transmission of power. SMITH, F. L., and SMITH, R. J., 2, Alexandra Villas, Burton Road, Littleover, Derbyshire. May 2, 1934, No. 13238. [Class 69 (ii)] A variable - speed hydraulic transmission gear comprises a pump having sections in parallel, one or more of the sections having a byepass valve operated automatically through snap - over mechanism. Other sections have a manually controlled byepass valve. The pump may be of the type described in Specification 433,488, [Group XXVI], and comprise sections a, b, c, Fig. 6, the section a having a byepass valve i, and the sections b, c having a valve manually operable to byepass one or both of the sections. The valve i is controlled from a piston s by a rod o, and snap-over mechanism comprising a wedge r, Fig. 2, and a spring-loaded plunger u; the pump delivery pressure acts on the piston s in opposition to a spring v and the liquid pressure on a piston w. The pressure on the piston w is determined by adjusting a spring 24 and so controlling a valve 13 to admit or release liquid to act on the piston.
