Abstract
436,395. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd., Perivale, Middlesex.-(Hoover Co.; North Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 10, 1934, No. 10835. [Class 8 (i)] A hose connection F<1> is inserted through a socket F formed in the side wall of a passage leading from the fan chamber of a vacuum cleaner to the floor nozzle, which contains a rotary agitator D driven by a belt from the fan shaft, and turns a valve G pivoted on the wall from its normal position, lying against the wall and closing the socket opening, into the position shown where it co-operates with the opposite wall of the passage and with a plate on, or carried by, the base of the fan chamber to close the fan from communication with the nozzle and open communication with the socket. In a modification, a fixed wall extends from the further wall of the passage partly around the fan shaft, and the valve co-operates with this wall. The base of the fan chamber may be shaped to co-operate with the valve and partly to surround the fan shaft.
