489,984. Pipe couplings. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Nov. 30, 1937, No. 33047. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1936. [Class 99 (i)] A hose end 17 is coupled to the end cover 13 of a vacuum cleaner casing by pushing the hose end or a sleeve thereon into a cylindrical portion of the cover and thus deflecting the projecting arm of a double armed lever 20 pivoted in the cover, the deflected arm snapping into a groove 19 in the hose end or sleeve when the hose is pushed home whilst the other arm of the lever projects outside of the cover and is operable to release the hose. The lever may be either weighted or provided with a spring 21 to ensure that it snaps into the groove. A plate 22 fixed to the inside of the cover may serve to hold the spring 21 in place. A second spring may be provided between the hose end and the plate 22 for automatically ejecting the hose when the lever is pressed out of engagement with the groove. The lever and an adjacent part of the cover have co-operating parts 24 to prevent the lever being pressed so tightly into the groove as to prevent rotation of the hose in the cover. The cylindrical portion of the cover may be located internally or externally of the cover.
