Abstract
459,686. Pipe couplings. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., Electrolux Works, Luton.-(Assignees of Aktiebolaget Elektrolux ; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm) Feb. 10, 1936, No. 4007. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1935. [Class 99 (i)] A coupling for vacuum cleaner hoses comprises spring locking members mounted on a spigot secured to the end of the hose 19 which automatically engage recesses 17 in the socket 15 of the vacuum cleaner when the spigot enters the socket and are adapted to be withdrawn by a sleeve 21 slidable on the spigot. The locking members comprise lugs 28 mounted on spring tongues 27 on a member 25 secured to the spigot. The lugs project through slots in the sleeve, the edge of the slot engaging an inclined face 30 to depress the lug when the sleeve is retracted against the action of spring 23. In a modification the locking members comprise balls which engage an inclined surface on the spigot and are controlled by a coiled spring around the spigot.
