Abstract

422,609. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd., Perivale, Greenford, Middlesex. -(Hoover Co. ; North Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 10, 1934, No. 10834. [Class 8 (i)] In a vacuum cleaner having a motor-driven fan from the shaft of which a belt D<1> drives a rotary agitator D in the floor nozzle, a valve F is provided pivoted at right angles to the base of the fan chamber and displaced from the motor axis, and having a socket F<2> to receive a suction hose, the socket communicating with an aperture F<3> in the valve which in the position shown communicates with the fan eye, and when the valve is withdrawn, is closed by the base of the fan chamber, while the fan is then open to the floor nozzle through the suction passages through which the belt passes. The valve is held in either position by a spring catch G.
