Abstract

435,892. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ELECTRIC AUTO-LITE CO., Champlain Street, Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. Oct. 27, 1934, No. 30928. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1933. [Class 35] [See also Group XXVI] A dynamo-electric machine is placed in a stream of air produced by a fan &c. and a portion of the stream is diverted through the casing of the stream by a second fan. The invention is described with respect for a lighting &c. generator for a motor-car, the first fan being the radiator fan of the car. Preferably the air on entering the casing takes a sharp turn to get rid of dust &c. Figs. 1 and 3 show such an arrangement, the stream of air from the fan 14 flowing over the casing of the generator 10 and being in part drawn through the casing by a fan 25 on the generator spindle, entering the casing by openings 58 at the end remote from the fan 14 and leaving by openings 59 at the other end. The fan 25 may be combined with the driving-pulley of the generator as shown in Fig. 5. The pulley consists of sheet metal discs 46, 47 secured to a hub 44 and the fan blades 53 are struck up from a sheet metal ring 51 secured to an extension 49 of the disc 47. The fan 25 may be at the end of the casing remote from the fan 14, and the air may enter the casing at the end near the fan 14, a flange being provided to cause the air to take the necessary sharp turn.
