435,836. Track brakes. KNORRBREMSE AKT.-GES., 9, Neue Bahnhofstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin. Dec. 12, 1934, No. 35693. Convention date, Sept. 27. [Class 103 (i)] Between an electromagnetic track brake for railway vehicles and a gear-wheel driven by an electric motor or otherwise, a releasable connection exists which is automatically disengaged when the brake-block is to be lowered so that the block falls on the rail, independently of the gear-wheel, under the action of gravity, while for lifting the block a coupling engagement is automatically re-established between the block and gear-wheel. As shown, a unidirectional worm-wheel 7 driven by an electric motor 8 is loosely mounted on a shaft 6 and carries a projection 10 adapted to rotate a crank 11 on the shaft so as to lift the brakeblock 1 through the intermediary of a rod 5, link 4, and roller-guided chains 2. When the crank passes its dead-centre position, the block is free to drop on the rail under its own weight and pulls the crank away from the projection 10. The motor is automatically cut out of circuit when the brake current is switched off just before the crank reaches the dead-centre position, and again before coupling engagement is re-established between the projection and crank, after the brake is applied.
