Abstract

Bleaching, wetting and penetrating agents are characterized by a content of water-soluble hypophosphates, e.g. tetrasodium hypophosphate (Na4P2O6), or hypophosphates of triethanolamine, cyclohexylamine, or amino-propanediol. Agents specified are soda, water-glass, borax or other borate, alkali phosphates, soap, alkali salts of sulphonated oils or fatty alcohols, organic solvents, enzymes, and hydrogen peroxide, perborates, persulphates, or other persalts with or without stabilizers. For example, a bleaching agent for textiles and fabrics is obtained by mixing sodium perborate, tetrasodium hypophosphate, soda and magnesium silicate in an edge-runner mill. Compositions made from a mixture of soap, soda, perborate and water with tetrasodium hypophosphate, sodium metaphosphate, and tetrasodium pyrophosphate respectively are also given to show the superior stabilizing effect of hypophosphates on persalts.ALSO:Cleansing, bleaching, dyeing, penetrating, and like compositions are characterized by a content of water-soluble hypophosphates, e.g. tetra-sodium hypophosphates (Na4P2O6) or hypophosphates of triethanolamine, cyclohexylamine or amino-propandiol. Cleansing and other agents specified are soda, waterglass, borax or other borates, alkali phosphates, soap, alkali salts of sulphonated oils or fatty alcohols, organic solvents, enzymes, hydrogen peroxide, perborates, persulphates, or other persalt may be usable as a stabilizing agent, sand or other abrasive. For example, 12lb. of p sodium perborate, 15lb. of tetra sodium hypophosphate, 10lb. of soda, and 1lb. of magnesium silicate, with or without 50lb. of soap, are mixed in an edge-runner mill, or 30lb. of tetra-sodium hypophosphate, 20lb. of soda and 15lb. of sodium meta-silicate are mixed. The effect of the hypophosphates in stabilizing percompounds in cleansing agents is advantageously compared with that of meta- or pyro-phosphates; mixtures of 14lb. of tetrasodium hypophosphate, pyrophosphate, and sodium meta-phosphate respectively, with a mixture of 50lb. of soap, 8lb. of soda, 8lb. of perborate, and 20lb. of water are specified.
