Abstract
A stable substantially dry detergent composition comprises (a) an anionic or nonionic detergent, (b) a water-soluble perborate, particularly sodium perborate tetrahydrate, (c) a water-soluble copper salt, especially copper sulphate, and (d) a sequestering agent which forms a complex with copper having a dissociation constant of 10-11-10-15, (c) and (d) both being present in amounts which enhance the bleaching action of the perborate at the boil. (a) is suitably sodium C10- 16-alkyl benzene sulphonate, sodium alkyl sulphate, soap, fatty acid ethanolamide or ethenoxylated tail oil, while (d) is preferably methylaminodiacetic acid, hydroxyethyl aminodiacetic acid or aminotriacetic acid. In general, (a) comprises 4-40% by weight; (b) 3-20%; adjuvant salts such as sodium sulphate, silicate, or tri-polyphosphate 40-90%; perfume, colour or blueing agent up to 1%; (c) an amount that will yield 30-300, preferably 40-80 parts of copper per million parts by weight of the composition; and (d) an amount such that there are present 3-15, preferably 10-13, molecules thereof per atom of copper. Magnesium silicate may also be included in the compositions.ALSO:A stable substantially dry detergent-bleaching composition comprises (a) an anionic or non-ionic detergent (b) a water soluble perborate, particularly sodium perborate tetrahydrate (c) a water soluble copper salt, especially copper sulphate, and (d) a sequestering agent which forms a complex with copper having a dissociation constant of 10-11 - 10-15, (c) and (d) both being present in amounts which enhance the bleaching action of the perborate at the boil. (a) is suitably sodium C10-16-alkyl benzene sulphonate, sodium alkyl sulphate, soap, fatty acid ethanolamide or ethenoxylated tall oil, while (d) is preferably methylaminodiacetic acid, hydroxyethyl aminodiacetic acid or aminotriacetic acid. In general, (a) comprises 4-40% by weight; (b) 3-20%; adjuvant salts such as sodium sulphate, silicate, or tripolyphosphate 40-90%; perfume, colour or blueing agent up to 1%; (c) an amount that will yield 30-300, preferably 40-80 parts of copper per million parts by weight of the composition; and (d) an amount such that there are present 3-15, preferably 10-13, molecules thereof per atom of copper. Magnesium silicate may also be included in the compositions.
