Abstract

Per-compounds, particularly sodium perborate, are combined with a water-soluble salt of a chelating agent having the general formula:- <FORM:0866492/IV(c)/1> where n is a positive integer. The composition so formed may be combined with a surface active agent, which may be a soap or a sodium salt of a sulphonated higher fatty alcohol, to produce a detergent composition; a silicate such as magnesium silicate may be added to stabilize the chelating agent. The silicate may be formed in situ by reaction between magnesium chloride and sodium silicate. Compounds referred to of the general formula given above are the sodium salts of diethylenetriamine-penta-acetic acid, triethylene tetramine-hexa-acetic acid and tetra-ethylene pentamine hepta-acetic acid or mixtures thereof. Such acids and high homologues may be obtained by the exhaustive carboxymethylation of residues arising from ethylene diamine production.ALSO:Per-compounds and in particular sodium perborate, are stabilized by the presence of a water-soluble salt of a chelating agent having the general formula <FORM:0866492/III/1> where n is a positive integer. The composition so formed may be combined with a surface active agent which may be a soap or a sodium salt of a sulphonated higher fatty alcohol to produce a detergent composition; a silicate such as magnesium silicate may be added to stabilize the chelating agent. The silicate if desired may be formed in situ by reaction between magnesium chloride and sodium silicate. Compounds referred to of the general formula given above are the sodium salts of diethylenetriamine-penta-acetic acid, triethylenetetramine-hexa-acetic acid and tetraethylene pentamine hepta-acetic acid or mixtures thereof. Such acids and higher homologues may be obtained by the exhaustive carboxymethylation of residues arising from ethylene diamine production.
