Abstract
338,121. Marquardt, A., and Walter, E. Aug. 8, 1929. Bleaching and washing, processes and materials for.-In a washing process in which the washing operation and the soap-producing process are combined, the separate components of the soap forming mixture, the saponifying agents and saponifiable substances such as fats, fatty acids, sulphonated fatty acids, oils and the like, are added together or in succession to the wash without previous pressing into the articles to be washed and without pressing out of the liquid. Alcohols, hydrocarbons, colloids, ferments, bleaching agents &c. which promote cleansing may be added, and the saponifying agents may comprise carbonates &c. to produce an evolution of gas which will assist the cleansing. On completion of the washing, the washing liquor is diluted and drained off. The process is applicable to articles which are introduced dry into the washing liquor. The saponifiable substances may comprise a mixture of palmitic and stearic acids with or without olein; or olein, sulphonated olive oil fatty acids, and linseed oil fatty acids used alone or in mixtures; or palmitic and stearic acids to which is added a mixture, of equal parts of turpentine, decahydronaphthalene and perchlorethylene, or simply olein and turpentine, or stearic acid, sulphonated olive oil, turpentine and decahydronaphthalene; or stearic acid olein and sulphonated castor oil with sulphonated olive or ground nut oil, Degras, or alcohol and perchlorethylene; size, dextin, mucilage or potato flour may be added. As alkali ingredients, calcined soda, bicarbonate of soda, caustic soda, and a mixture of soda and waterglass are mentioned. Sodium peroxide, boric acid, mono- or di-sodium orthophosphate may be used as bleaching agents in the second steeping operation, or soda bleaching lye, hydrogen peroxide, boric acid or Lucidol may be incorporated in the fatty ingredients.
