Abstract

Washing-powders for textile fabrics &c., and of the kind described in Specification 185,828, consist of sodium carbonate, ultramarine, and soaps and the equivalent glycerine prepared by the cold process from cokernut oil, palm kernel oil, or a mixture. According to the Provisional Specification, the compositions may be used in conjunction with about 5 per cent of hydrogen peroxide to remove stains. In an example, stains of ink, iodine, or paint are removed from silks or linens by alternately dipping the goods in a solution of the powder in boiling water and rubbing with peroxide.ALSO:Washing powders for textile fabrics &c., and of the kind described in Specification 185,828, consist of sodium carbonate, ultramarine, and soaps and the equivalent glycerine prepared by the cold process from cokernut oil, palm-kernel oil, or a mixture. In an example, a mixture of equal parts of the oils is completely saponified at 90 DEG -100 DEG F. by causticsoda solution of sp. gr. 1.33, and the excess alkali neutralized by oleic acid. Soda crystals or soda ash representing 160-315 parts of pure sodium carbonate and 2 parts of sulphate ultramarine or soda ultramarine poor in silica are then added for each 100 parts of anhydrous soap, and the mass cooled, dried, and ground. The soap may be cooled and dried before addition of the carbonate and ultramarine.
