Abstract
Cleansing or fulling agents for wool, cotton, and other textiles consist of sulphuric esters or their neutral water-soluble salts of aliphatic, aliphatic-aromatic, or cyclo-aliphatic alcohols or olefines, containing at least 8 carbon atoms, mixed with alkali metal, magnesium, ammonium or amine water-soluble salts of acids capable of displacing carbonic acid from alkali metal carbonates. Solvents, soaps or other wetting agents, bleaching agents, protective colloids, or other usual agents may be added. When magnesium salts are used the treated goods may be considerably weighted. 5-500 per cent of salts relative to esters or salts thereof may be employed. Salts specified are sodium and magnesium sulphate and bisulphate, borax, water-glass, and sodium phosphate, chloride, acetate, tartrate, and benzoate. In examples: (1) Loose wool is washed at 50 DEG C. in a solution of 1,0 grams. of sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol, or the sodium salt thereof, and 2,0 grams, of sodium sulphate in 1 litre of water. (2) Woollen or cotton piece goods are washed at 50 DEG C. in a solution containing in each litre 0,\3-t,0 grams of sodium acetate and 2,0 grams of the mixture of sulphuric esters prepared according to Specification 303,281, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], from a mixture of high-molecular alcohols obtained by the oxidation of soft paraffin wax. (3) Wool in the suint is scoured at 45-50 DEG C. in a water solution containing in each litre 1,8 grams of water-glass and 3,0 grams of the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of cholesterol or of cetyl or stearyl alcohol. Other mixtures specified are trisodium phosphate with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of stearyl alcohol, disodium tartrate or borax with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of lauryl alcohol, and magnesium sulphate or sodium bisulphate with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol. Specifications 173,757, 247,714, 267,924, 294,572, 303,281, 303,917, 307,709, 308,824, 317,039, and 318,610, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the salts mixed with the esters are neutral or basic salts of the alkali metals ammonia, or amines; sodium carbonate is among those specified.ALSO:Cleansing or fulling agents for wool, cotton, and other textiles consist of sulphuric esters or their neutral water-soluble salts of aliphatic, aliphatic-aromatic, or cylco-aliphatic alcohols, or olefines, containing at least 8 carbon atoms, mixed with alkali metal, magnesium, ammonium or amine water-soluble salts of acids capable of displacing carbonic acid from alkali metal carbonates. Solvents, soaps, or other wetting agents, bleaching agents, protective colloids, or other usual agents may be added. When magnesium salts are used the treated goods may be considerably weighted e.g., 5-500 per cent of salts relative to esters or salts thereof may be employed. Salts specified are sodium and magnesium sulphate and bisulphate, borax, water glass, and sodium phosphate, chloride, acetate, tartrate, and benzoate. In examples:-(1) Loose wool is washed at 50 DEG C. in a solution of 1,0 gram of sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol, or the sodium salt thereof, and 2,0 grams of sodium sulphate in 1 litre of water. (2) Woollen or cotton piece goods are washed at 50 DEG C. in a solution containing in each litre 0,3-5,0 grams of sodium acetate and 2,0 grams of the mixture of sulphuric esters prepared according to Specification 303,182, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], from a mixture of high-molecular alcohols obtained by the oxidation of soft paraffin wax. (3) Wool in the suint is scoured at 45-50 DEG C. in a water solution containing in each litre 1,8 gram of water-glass and 3,0 grams of the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of cholesterol or of cetyl or stearyl alcohol. Other mixtures specified are trisodium phosphate with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of stearyl alcohol, di-sodium tartrate or borax with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of lauryl alcohol, and magnesium sulphate or sodium bisulphate with the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol. Specifications 173,757, 247,714, 267,924, 294,572, 303,281, 303,917, 307,709, 308,824, 317,039, and 318,610, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the salts mixed with the esters are neutral or basic salts of the alkali metals, ammonia, or amines; sodium carbonate is among those specified.
