433,391. Grinding metal sheets. MAUSER MASCHINENBAU GES., 28, Marianstrasse, Ehrenfeld, Cologne, Germany. March 27, 1934, No. 9536. Convention date, April 3, 1933. [Class 60] In a machine for grinding the margins of metal sheets prior to welding them, the plane of the grinding wheel a is oblique to the abutment rail b forming the guide for the edge of the sheet, so that the wheel, against which the sheet is pressed by a presser d, tends to urge the sheet into contact with the guide rail as well as to move it in the direction of the edge. In the construction shown, the abutment rail b is adjustable to and from the edge of the table n to allow the width of the ground margin to be varied, the rail being for this purpose carried by screwed rods k adjustably clamped to a bracket m. The rail b carries a wearing strip r and holding-down cover-strips j, which are replaceable. The presser d is forced upwardly by springs e bearing at their lower ends on a member g vertically adjustable to vary the pressure. A replaceable and reversible wearing-piece i is secured to the top of the presser d. A pointer, (not shown), moving with the axis of the grinding wheel, as this is adjusted to compensate for wear of the grinding wheel, moves over a scale which indicates which pulley step of the belt transmission driving the wheel should be employed to give the correct circumferential speed to the wheel.
