llc it known that l, CHRISTIAN A. Satin, a. citizen ot the United States, residing at indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of lndiana, have invented a new and useful Belt-Skirer, of which the following is a specification.
ln the production of leather belting, especiallg.r of the heavier larger belts, it is essential that accurately and finely beveled ends be provided so that the thickness of the completed beltl may be uniform and the object of my present invention is to produce a machine capable of properly beyeling the ends of the belt-ing sections at a rapid rate.

ln the drawings, 10 indicates the .main frame carrying at one edge an angle iron 11 which may be vertically adjusted by temper screws 12 and clainped in adjusted position by clamping bolts 13. Secured to the upper face of iron 11 is a flexible plate 14e (coureniently a piece of saw blade steel) one edge of which jjniojects beyond iron 11 'and has scoured to it one edge of the work table 15. rllablc 15 is further supported, at its end adjacent the plate 141, by a temper screw 1G. Adjacent its delivery edge table 15 carries a feed roll 17, the periphery of which is preferably slightly rougheued. lloller 1'? is journaled in suitable bearings carried by the table 15 and at one end is provided with a worin wheel 1S `which meshes with a worin 19 carried by a shaft E20 journaled in suitable bearings on the under side of table 15. Shaft 20 is provided with a sprocket wheel 21 connected by a. chain 22 with a suitable main driving shaft 23. Table 15 at its edge opposite the plate 14 is provided with an en tending arin 25 to which is connected a rod 26 extending up through the frame 10 and engaged by a spring 2? which normally urges the free edge of the table 15 upwardly.

is a clamp 31 in which is mounted a sliding bar 32 `which may be clamped in any desired longitudinal posi-tion by the clamping bolts 33. Rod 32 carries two Vertically adjustable yokes and 35 which support bearings 3 6 and 37 respectively for the ends of a. pressure roller` 38 which is arranged immediately above the feed roller 1T. Yoke 34% is vertically adjustable by any suitable adjusting means such as temper screw 39 and the lifting spring B9 so that the adjacent end of roller 38 .may occupy an accurate position relative to the cutting edge of a splitting knife 41 which is aranged within the delivery crotch between rollers 1l' and 3S, as is clearly shown in llig. 5. The opposite end of roller 38 is normally urged downwardly by any suitable means acting upon yoke 35. ln Fig. 1 l show a weighted lever L12 acting upon said yoke while in lfig. 7 l show a compression spring 13 acting upon said yoke. The main body of the belt section may be supported upon a side table 52.
ln operation, roller 17 is adjusted, by ineans of the temper screws 12 and 1G until its lefthand end (Figs. 1, 3, and (i) comes just into the plane of the cutting edge of the knife l11 and yoke 3st is adjusted until the righthand end of the roller 38 comes down just into the cutting plane. Bar 32 is then adjusted longitudinally until the righthand end of the roller 33 is spaced from the lefthand end of roller 17 by a distance equal to the length of the desired berel to be cut upon the end of the belt 51. rflierenpon the parts are put in motion and the end of the belt fed through between the rollers 17 and 38 as shown in Fig. (i. the knife serving to slice the belt and to remove from it a wedge shaped piece 55. It will be noticed that so long as the lefthand end of roller 17 and the righthand end of roller 3S are properly adjusted in the manner set forthT any desired angle and length of bevel may be obtained without any other adjustment of the parts, the work table and pressure roller yielding properly in opposite directions to acco1nino date belting of different thicln esscs. As a consequence a Very considerably increased amount of work may be produced by a manipulation of the machine.
l clailn as my invention:
1. A machine for scarfing belting, co1nprising a cutting knife, a work table arranged upon one side of the cutting plane of said knife, a roller carried by said work table, means for yieldingly swinging one end of said roller toward the cutting plane, a second roller arranged above and overlapping the first roller, means for adjusting said second roller axially relative to the first roller, means for swinging toward the cut-- ting plane that end of the second roller which lies farthest from the swinging end of the first roller, and means for driving one of said rollers.
2. A machine for scarfing belting, comprising a cutting knife, a work table arranged upon one side of the cutting plane of said knife, a roller carried by said work table, means for yieldingly swinging one end of said roller toward the cutting plane, a second roller arranged above and overlapping the first roller, means for swinging toward the cutting plane that end of the second roller which lies farthest from the swinging end of the first roller, and means for driving one of said rollers.
3. A machine for scariing belt-ing, comprising a feed roller, a pressure roller, a knife arranged in the delivery crotch between said rollers, means for independently adjusting one pair of opposite ends of said two rollers toward and from the plane of the knife, and means for permitting yielding of the other pair of opposite ends of said rollers relative to the plane o-f the knife.
4. A machine for scarl-ing belting, comprising a feed roller, a pressure roller, a knife arranged in the deliverycrotch between said rollers, means for independently adjusting one pair of opposite ends of said two rollers toward and from the plane of the knife, means for permitting yielding of the other pair of opposite ends of said r0llers relative to the plane of the knife, and means for adjust-ing said two rollers axially relatively to each other so that they may be made to overlap to a greater or less extent.
5. A machine for scarfing belting, comprising a feed roller, a pressure roller, a knife arranged in the delivery crotch between said rollers, means for independently adjusting one pair of opposite ends of said two rollers toward and from the plane of the knife, and adjustable means for per mitting yielding of the other pair of opposite ends of said rollers relative to the plane of the knife.
6. A machine for scariing belting, comprising a feed roller, a pressure roller, a knife arranged in the delivery crotch between said rollers, means for independently adjusting one pair of opposite ends of said two rollers toward and from the plane of the knife, means for permit-ting yielding of the other pair of opposite ends of said rollers relative to the plane of the knife, and means for adjusting said two rollers axially relatively to each other so that they may be made to overlap to a greater or less extent, the overlapping vends of said rollers being the ones which are adjustable relatively to the plane of the knife.
