JAMES MILLER, OE DERBY, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALF TO GEORGE FLETCHER @c COMPANY LIMITED.
TRASH-TURNER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 8, 1920..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MILLER, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Derby, in the county of Derby and Kingdom of England, have invented a certain new and useful Trash-Turner, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in sugar cane or the like crushing mills, and relates more particularly to an improved means for the adjustment of the trash turner relatively to the rollers with which it coperates.
In usual three-roller sugar cane mills it is necessary to provide a plate of desired form, the so-called trash plate, to guide the crushed cane after it has been squeezed between the feed and the top roller until it passes between the top and the discharge rollers.
According to this invention means are provided for adjusting the bar and thereby the trash turner blade carried by it, simultaneously at both ends. In the application of the invention to an eccentric type of adjustment taken by way of example, a shaft passes right through the bar and the headstocks and carries cams or eccentrics engaging sliding pieces tted in the bar.
Lateral movement is communicated to the plate by revolving the central shaft by any desired means such as worm and wormwheels or levers or other suitable means from one convenient and accessible position preferably on the open side of the mill as distinguished from the pinion or driving side.
rIhe invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side View of part of a trash turner while Fig. 2 is a part cross-sectional end view through a mill.
The trash turner 1 which may be of any desired form, is mounted on the lower part of the framing 2 between the two lower rolls in the case of a three-roller mill, in usual manner. On its upper surface it carries the blade 3 bolted or otherwise secured to it., Adjacent its upper edge a shaft 11 is passed through it, which shaft 4 carries an eccentric 5 engaging a bush 6 on each side of the mill adapted to slide in guides 7 on the trash turner 1. It will consequently be seen that by rotating the shaft A the trash turner blade 3 would be moved either to one side or the other. rIhe shaft t passes through the head stock 17 and carries a worm wheel 8 on the side of the mill opposite to that carrying the driving gearing 9. "The worm wheel 8 is adapted to mesh with a worm 10 provided with a handle or with tommy holes or other means whereby it may be rotated. `Consequently it will be seen that whenever the trash turner blade requires adjusting this may be simply effected by a turning of the worm 10 from the open side of the mill without necessitating the stoppage of the same. In order to protect the adjusting mechanism consisting of the eccentric bush 5 and block 6, a guard plate 1l is provided which shrouds this adjustment mechanism by directing the juice away from it.
I declare that what I claim is 1. A sugar cane crushing mill comprising rollers, a trash turner, adjustment means at each end of said trash turner and means to simultaneously operate said adjustment means.
2. A sugar cane crushing mill comprising rollers, a trash turner, adjustment means at each end of said trash turner, means to simultaneously operate said adjustment means and means to protect the adjustment means from juice.
3. A sugar cane crushing mill comprising head stocks, rollers mounted in said head stocks, a trash turner, adjustable bearings for said trash turner in said lieadstocks and means to adjust said bearings simultaneously.
4. A sugar cane crushing mill comprising headstocks, rollers mounted in said head stocks, a trash turner, adjustable bearings for said trash turner in said head stocks and means arranged on the upper side of the mill to adjust said beL rings simultaneously.
5. A sugar cane crushng mill comprising head stocks, rollers mounted in said head stocks, a hollow trash turner, adjustment signed my name this 16 day of Sepr., 1919, means on each efnd of said trash turner, inthe presence of two subscribing Witnesses. operating means or said adjustment means and means interconnecting the adjustment JAMES MILLER 5 means and passing through said hollow Witnesses:
trash turner. Y J. F. KZALIETT, In Witness whereof I have hereunto MILLER.
