[Class 83 (iv)] In forging one end of a tubular article it is held between a fixed die E, and an hydraulic plunger in a frame N. A cradle Q carried by guide rods D supports the other end of the work. Dies for necking the cylinder are disposed around a turret g mounted on ball bearings on an upper guide rod d and carried by a crosshead c associated with an hydraulic plunger a. The guide rod d for the crosshead c is one of a pair arranged diagonally to a vertical plane passing through the plunger a and a third guide is constituted by a roller f on the crosshead engaging a track e.
