Abstract
755,376. Drawing. STAHL-UND ROHREN. WERK REISHOLZ GES. July 22, 1954 [July 25, 1953], No. 21459/54. Class 83 (4). In apparatus for cold drawing a tube through a die 2, Fig. 1, over a plug 3 a reciprocating clamping means 9 co-operating with a mandrel 6 moving in unison with the clamping means 9 transmits its intermittent forward movement to the drawn part of the tube. The clamping means 9 comprises wedge-shaped jaws 9a longitudinally slidable and yieldingly held in engagement with the tube by compression springs 7 and is reciprocated by means such as cranks and connecting rods through pins 9b, Fig. 3, the movement being imparted to the mandrel 6 through a push-rod 18 connected to the mandrel rod 5 through a carriage 19 (not shown). Movement of the tube during the return strokes of the clamping device 9 is prevented by a stationary clamping device 10 with spring-loaded wedgeshape jaws 11. A reduced end-piece 20, Fig. 6, may be welded on the leading end of the tube for engagement with the clamping means after which each successive length of tube may be welded to the trailing end of the previous tube.
