Abstract

1,150,750. Feeding devices for presses. L. SCHULER G.m.b.H. 6 Nov., 1967 [7 Nov., 1966], No. 50264/67. Headings B3H and B3Q. A drive for a press &c. work feeder 37 driven by a rotating shaft S to have reciprocatory movements separated by periods when the feeder is static or relatively slow moving, comprises two slides 10, 15 guided for reciprocatory movement parallel to the feed direction and one of which (10) is driven by a crank 1, a coupling 12, 16, 19 interconnecting the slides for synchronous movement, and a guide cam 22 acting on the coupling to allow relative movement between the slides when the driving slide 10 is near the ends of its strokes, the driven slide 15 driving the feeder. A work-gripper (not shown), or a plurality of grippers for stepwise transfer, are provided on the feeder carrier 37 which is movable transversely of the driven slide 15 at the ends of the strokes to pick-up and set down workpieees. Guide-rods 39 on the carrier 37 slide in bearings 41 in the driven slide. A crank 1 on the drive shaft is connected by a rod 2 to a link 3 which reciprocates the drive slide 10 through a rod 8. A lever 12, 16 on a pivot 17 on the slide 10 has one end connected by a link 19 to the driven slide 15 and the other supporting a roller 21 running in the guide cam 22. This has a straight intermediate section with deflected ends which produce relative movement between the slides towards the ends of the strokes of slide 10, thus allowing the driven slide 15 to stop or move slowly before the drive slide 10 reaches the ends of its stroke. The relative movement is used to lower and raise the carrier by means of a rack 28 on the slide 10 engaging a pinion 29 driving a crank-shaft 30 on the slide 15. Attached to the crank-shaft is a connecting rod (32), Fig. 2 (not shown), coupled by a resilient link (35) to the carrier 37 so as to permit further movement of the crankshaft 30 after the carrier has been arrested by adjustable stop-screws 40. Rollers 11 guide slide 10 in slide 15, and the ends of the guide cam may be arranged to uncouple the slides.
