432,718. Gas - storage cylinders. TREVORROW, J. H. L., and CHESTERFIELD TUBE CO., Ltd., Tube Works, Derby Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Feb. 1, 1934, No. 3368. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group XXII] In a gas-storage cylinder A the side walls F are increased gradually in thickness over the lowest eighth of their length to about three times their normal thickness and the base H is of the same thickness and is recessed by being subjected to end pressure by a die, the side walls being held to prevent bulging. The blank prior to recessing the end is obtained by first driving a plunger of circular cross section into a red hot billet and subjecting the resulting cup shaped blank to hot drawing, and after pickling and heat treatment, to cold drawing over a tapered mandrel. Both drawing operations are carried out in a thrust plunger machine.
