Abstract

Artificial silk of reduced lustre is prepared from a viscose of normal cellulose content, but having a content of sulphur greater than normal, the excess of sulphur being obtained by adding to the solution an amount of carbon disulphide equal to 20 per cent of the amount used in the preparation of the xanthate. The carbon disulphide may be added to the soda used in the dissolution of the xanthate, and may be dissolved in a solvent such as paraffin oil.
