Abstract

432,061. Folding seats. WINDOVER, W. L. S., 475, Oxford Street, London. March 16, 1934, No. 8345. [Class 52 (ii)] In a seat for motor vehicles which folds against the back of the front seat 8, Fig. 2, a footrest 4 is hinged to the folding seat 3 so that it can be positioned near the floor when required for use by passengers in the rear seat, or folded up against the folding seat when not in use. The foot-rest supports 1 may be adjustable in length. The device comprises two rods 1 pivoted to the folding seat by brackets 2 and curved at the free ends 1<a>, with a cross rod or tube 4 which forms the foot-rest. A catch comprising a pin 10<a> which enters a recess in the foot-rest provided with a spring plunger, holds the foot-rest in folded position. In the construction shown in Figs. 6 and 7, two parallel tubes 1, 1, are pivoted to the folding seat, and two rods or tubes 13, 13 secured to the foot-rest 4 slide within the tubes 1. The upper parts of the tubes 1 are cut away for part of the length of the tubes, and the side walls formed with recesses in which engage pins 15 on the rods 13. The inner ends of the rods 13 are pivotally connected to short rods 14 which slide within the complete parts of the tubes 1.
