Abstract

288,373. Shepheard, H. Jan. 8, 1927. Folding seats.-A folding seat, suitable for use in motor vehicles, theatres, &c. comprises a seat frame c with rear end, which is preferable curved upwards, pivoted to the upper end of a rear-frame a, itself pivoted to a base-frame b. Links e are pivoted to the base-frame and to the seat frame, their upper ends extending beyond the pivots to engage stops a the rear of the seat-frame or on the rear-frame. The frame d of a back rest may be pivoted to the seat-frame and the ends d' of its side members, which extend beyond the pivots, may be forked to receive the links e, thus acting as stops to prevent backward motion. The base is in two portions b, f, a bolt g, which engages a slot in the part b and screws into the part f, allowing of relative adjustment. When the seat is folded as shown in Fig. 4, it can be tilted about pivots in a cross-member j secured to the floor.
