[Classes 7 (v) and 7 (vi)] [See also Group XXIX] A device for automatically supplying a mixture of air and gas of substantially constant ratio comprises a piston 11 controlling the air inlet 15 and provided with a metering- pin 10 controlling the gas inlet 17, the piston 11 being subjected through a passage 21 to the pressure in the mixture pipe 19, and also to the action of a spring 20. The device may be used for supplying gas and air to motorvehicle engines, either for starting from a gas supply in the garage, or for running by means of a gas stored on the vehicle. Increase in suction in the pipe 19 causes the piston 11 to rise and increase the supply of both gas and air. The pin 10 may be slightly convex at its upper part to maintain a more correct ratio of gas to air. When used for starting, the device is connected by a flexible tube 22 having quick end connections, to a flange 23 inserted in the induction pipe, and having passages 25 leading to a bore 24 which coincides with the induction pipe. When the tube 22 is disconnected, a shut-off valve prevents inlet of air to the flange 23. When used for normal running, the piston device 11 may replace the usual carburetter.
