Abstract

431,699. Road - traffic signals on vehicles. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and EGGINTON, W. H., Great King Street, Birmingham. Jan. 15, 1934, No. 1393. [Class 118 (ii)] A switch for a direction indicator is set by hand to one of its two operative positions and is locked by a cam engaging a corner of a channel section plate, the lock being removed by the return movement of the steering-wheel operating a spring-controlled rod bearing the cam, to allow the switch to be restored by its spring. As shown in the drawing the switch, mounted on arm a secured to the steering column, is set by rotating the handle f so that the cam s engages one of the corners p on the flange o of plate n which is rotated with the switch and holds the switch in its operated position, as shown, against action of its restoring spring. When the steering wheel is moved to make the turn the cam x carried by the wheel rides over the pawl t but on the return movement of the wheel the cam forces the pawl t and with it the arm q and cam s away from the steering column against the pull of spring r. The cam s is thus moved out of the corner p allowing the switch with its operating handle f and holding plate n to return to its normal position under action of its restoring spring.
