Abstract

Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-In a direction signalling apparatus for road vehicles of the type comprising a pointer adapted to be rotated in a vertical plane, the pointer is mounted on a semicircular plate having a groove in which moves a roller attached to the pointer. Fig. 1 shows the apparatus for use with covered vehicles. A plate J has pivoted at the centre, a pointer K which is operated through gear wheels H, G by a shaft B which extends through the roof of the vehicle. The pointer is held in a signalling position by the engagement of a projection F on a bar with a corresponding notch in a base plate A. The bar E is located in a slot in the shaft B and is attached to a spring controlled portion of a handle C. When the handle is grasped the projection F is disengaged from a notch and the pointer may be moved into a new signalling position. Fig. 3 shows a modification adapted for use on open vehicles. The roller E is attached to a control arm C which is operated by a handle B. The control arm comprises two parts held together by a spring G. The pointer is held in a signalling position by the co-operation of the roller E with the corresponding notches F<1>, F<2> or F<3> under the influence of the spring G. The pointer is hollow and contains electric lamps L which are illuminated at night.
