Abstract
431,279. Stop cocks or valves. BUTLER, H. G., Skardew Road, Cricklewood, London. March 8, 1934, No. 7418. [Class 135] A stop - cock or the like comprises an axially - movable cylindrical plug 3<a> threaded into the casing 1 with its unthreaded part 3 normally lying across the outlet to the spout 9, the inner end of the plug 3<a> having a washer 4 adapted to engage one face of a seating 5 and a stem 6 extending therefrom to hold a valve 7 normally off the other face of the seating 5. When the plug 3<a> is removed from the casing 1 for renewing the washer 4 or for other purposes, the valve 7 engages the seating under the action of a leaf or helical spring 12 or fluid pressure to prevent the flow of liquid. In the latter case, the valve 7 is provided with wire legs which are a sliding fit in the inlet end of the casing. To prevent water leaking past the plug 3s, a passage 14 is provided from the casing 1 adjacent to the part 3 of the plug to the spout 9.
