Abstract

Bituminous paints, lacquers and the like coating compositions containing cellulose derivatives and volatile organic solvents, include as a common solvent for the bituminous materials and the cellulose derivatives, one or more esters of cyclohexanol or its homologues and/or one or more ketones corresponding to cyclohexanol or its homologues. Benzene, benzine or other solvents, drying oils, resins, and pigments such as carbon black may also be included. Such esters and ketones include cyclohexanol formate and acetate, methylcyclohexanol acetate, methylhexaline butyrate, dimethylcyclohexanol formate, cyclohexanone, and methylcyclohexanone. In examples, compositions comprise (1) asphalt lacquer, nitrocellulose, butyl acetate and cyclohexanol acetate; (2) asphalt lacquer, nitrocellulose, and cyclohexanone.
