Abstract
279,520. Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I., (Assignees of Bradshaw, H.). Oct. 25, 1026, [Convention date]. Coating-compositions, containing. - Cellulose esters or ethers also contain, as a solvent, an alcohol preferably boiling at about 180‹ C., derived from a heterocyclic compound such as furfural. The derivative is preferably an hydrogcnated furfural, and tetrahydro-furfuryl alcohol is specified. The solvent is particularly useful for pyroxylin lacquers, and the compositions may contain a resin such as dammar and other solvets such as hydrocarbon oil, a butyl ester, benzene &c. By the addition of butyl alcohol or acetate, solvent naphtha, ethyl alcohol &c. blending with gasoline is effected. Zinc oxide mav be included in the compositions. In examples of coating compositions the following materials are specified : (1) Pyroxylin, dammar resin, dibutyl phthalate, butyl acetate, tetrahydrofurfuryl, ethyl and butyl alcohols, toluol and gasoline. (2) Pyroxylin, zinc oxide, dammar resin, tricresyl phosphate. 'butyl acetate, tetrahydro-furfuryl, ethyl and butyl alcohols, toluol, xylol and gasoline.
