[Class 100 (iii)] Assembling matrices; driving-mechanism.- To adapt the machine for casting either from lines of ordinary matrices, which are afterwards distributed, or from hand-set lines, which are not distributed, means are provided for imparting two different cycles of movement to the transporter, in one of which the line, after the casting, is brought to a line-removing position which is different from the normal, and may be the same as the line-receiving position. The transporter is operated by either of two cams, one of which effects the usual cycle, consisting in lowering the transporter from the receiving to the casting position, raising it to the line-removing position, and lowering it again to the receiving position. The second cam has the high part 17, Fig. 4, that raises the transporter to the line-removing position, replaced by a lower portion 18, which may be concentric with the portion 15, that sustains the transporter at the line-receiving position, so that, after the casting of a hand-set line, the transporter is returned to a position in which the line may be removed by hand. The two cams operate levers 20, 22, Fig. 1, mounted on a shaft 13, an arm 11 on which actuates the transporter 5. The lever 22, belonging to the cam that effects the normal cycle, is loose on the shaft 13, and can be connected to the lever 20, which is fixed on the shaft, by a pivoted latch 25. The latch is operated by a toggle 28 and a rod 34, which extends towards the front of the machine and is engaged by a hand lever 35. After the casting of a line from hand-set matrices, during which the latch 25 is disengaged, and the transporter is operated by the second cam and the lever 20, the latch is automatically reengaged by the action of the ejector-lever before the next cycle commences. At the end of each cycle, the machine is stopped by the usual stopping-levers 48, 49, which are carried by the starting-lever 46, and are acted on by a pawl 50 pivoted on one of the cams on the main shaft, in order to disengage the driving- clutch. The operation of the hand lever 35 to withdraw the latch 25 may also serve to re-start the machine by means of a connection to the usual starting-handle. The head 8 of the transporter is connected to the lower portion by a pivot 9, so that it can be swung forwards to facilitate the introduction or removal of a line.
