[Class 135] A streamlined valve has a differential annular plunger 5 forming a movable valve member slidable in a cylinder 4. Fluid pressure from the inlet pipe 1, or from an external source, is led to both sides of the plunger 5 and a duct 10 leads from the large area side of the plunger 5 to the outlet side of the valve. A slidable plunger 8 adapted to open or close the duct 10 is linked to a loaded piston 14. Movement of the piston 14 causes the plunger 8 to vary the flow through the duct 10 so that the plunger 5 moves to open or close the valve. As shown, the piston 14 is actuated by the fluid pressure on the outlet side of the valve through a connecting pipe 15 so that a constant reduced pressure is maintained on the down stream side of the valve. In a modification, the piston is acted upon by the fluid pressure on the inlet side of the valve. Alternatively, the piston 14 may be subjected to fluid pressure from an external source, or it may be operated manually. In a modification, the opposite sides of the piston 14 may be connected respectively to the inlet and throat of a Venturi tube so that the valve will give a constant rate of fluid flow.
