[Class 123 (i)] [See also Group XIX] A pressure gauge F situated at a point remote from the source of pressure E has its pipe D connected to a pressuretransmitting device comprising a casing containing pairs of diaphragms N which in the event of breakage of the long pipe D rest without permanent deformation upon the concave surfaces of disc-like members A. Pneumatic or hydraulic transmission may be used. For hydraulic transmission, a screw valve S is opened in order to fill the chambers on both sides of the diaphragms with liquid. Passages B in the members A connect the pipe D and passages Q with openings C leading to chambers L on one side of the diaphragms, the chambers O on the other side being connected to the source of pressure E. In a pneumatic modification, Fig. 2, for use on aircraft where considerable variations occur in the atmospheric pressure, one diaphragm X remains resting on its concave supporting-surface V until the other diaphragm W approaches the limit of its elastic distension. Fig. 4 shows the transmission device W, X arranged in the pipe line D of a liquid level gauge. The device may be disposed inside the tank or in a casing connected to the tank. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification wherein the pressure-transmitting device is provided with only one diaphragm. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
