Abstract
Monoazo dyes are made by coupling diazotized 6 - chloro - or 6 - bromo - 2 : 4 - dinitroaniline with an N - sulphatoethyl - or N - alkyl - N - sulphatoethyl derivative of an amine of the benzene series which couples in p-position to the amino group and in which the term alkyl signifies methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl. They dye or print acetate artificial silk, silk, tin-weighted silk, wool or leather in fast violet to blue tints. In examples dyes from the following components are described: 3 - N - isobutyl-, n - butyl - or isopropyl - N - sulphatoethylamino - 4 - methoxytoluene, 3 - N - sulphatoethylaminotoluene or 4 - methoxytoluene, N - methyl - or N - ethyl - N - sulphatoethylaniline and N - n - butyl - N - sulphatoethyl - 2 : 5 - dimethoxyaniline. Specifications 181,750 and 237,739, [both in Class 2 (iii)], are referred to. N - Sulphatoethylamines are obtained by treating the corresponding oxyethyl compound with chlorsulphonic acid in tetrachlorethane. 3 - N - isobutyl - b - hydroxyethylamino - 4 - methoxytoluene is made by condensing 3-amino-4-methoxytoluene with isobutylbromide and then with ethylenechlorhydrin in presence of chalk. N - n - butyl - N - b - hydroxyethyl - 2 : 5 - dimethoxyaniline is made by condensing 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline with ethylene chlorhydrin in presence of chalk and then with n-butylbromide.
