[Class 38 (v)] An induction relay adapted for optional manual actuation, comprises an induction disc 3 which drives a cogwheel 4 loosely mounted on a spindle 5 and pressed by a spring 6 into frictional engagement with a disc 7 fixed on the spindle. A spring 12 is fixed at one end to the spindle and at the other end to a fixed bearing 8. An insulating plate 16 is pivoted at 15 and has a catch member 25 bent at its end 26 to engage a catch 28 of a spring mounted plate 27. On the plate 16 are mounted fixed contacts 17 and springs 18 carrying movable contacts 19 and provided with strips 20 carrying rollers 22 which engage cams 13 on the spindle 5, arranged one each side of a cam 14. When the coil controlling the induction disc 3 is energized, for instance by a time switch, the spindle 5 is turned against the action of the spring 12 to turn the cams 13 to allow the contacts 17, 19 to engage. A projection 11 on the disc 7 engages a shoulder 10 on the bearing 8 and stops the disc 3 which remains in this position until the coil is deenergized. The spring 12 then returns the spindle 5 to open the circuit, the projection 11 on the disc 7 coming to rest on a projection 9 on the bearing 8. In order to close the circuit manually when the cams 13 are set to the off position, a knob 30 is provided having a spindle 32 carrying a cam 33 which is turned against the action of a return spring 34 to engage the strip 27 to release the catch 28. The plate 16 then turns on its pivot 15 to allow the contacts 17, 19 to close. When the spindle 5 is again turned by the induction disc a cam 14 engages the strip 25 to reset the catch 28. A second knob 31 operates a cam 37 which engages a bar 24 connecting the strips 23 to bend the springs 18 so far as to place the contact 19 out of reach of the contact 17 in either position of the plate 16. In a modification, the cam 37 engages with a strip carried by a spark shield 41 on the plate 16 to reset the plate manually.
